Here's how you can donate platelets and help save
lives:
-
What To
Expect - Plan to spend about two hours at the donor
center. When you arrive, you will complete a confidential
screening about your medical and travel history.
-
The
Procedure - The painless process
takes
around 90
minutes, during which time the donor can relax reading a
book or watching TV as a device known as a Trima machine
quietly spins to separate out the platelets and then return
other blood components back into his or her body (a
procedure known as apheresis).
-
Frequency -
You
can only give platelets every two weeks
-
How To
Begin - To
learn more about giving platelets or to make an appointment,
visit the
America's
Blood Centers or call 1-888-US-BLOOD (1-888-872-5663)
